The province of Badajoz is the southern of the two provinces of Extremadura in western Spain, with the city of Badajoz as its capital. Mérida, the capital of the autonomous community, also lies here. Its population density is low compared with other Spanish provinces.

Its largest towns are Badajoz, Mérida, Don Benito and Almendralejo, followed by Villanueva de la Serena, Zafra, Montijo and Villafranca de los Barros. Cáceres lies to the north, Toledo and Ciudad Real to the east, Córdoba, Seville and Huelva to the south and Portugal to the west.
