Zalamea de la Serena is a municipality in the province of Badajoz, in Extremadura, right in the heart of the comarca of La Serena. It belongs to the judicial district of Castuera. It is the setting of the play The Mayor of Zalamea, by Pedro Calderón de la Barca.

It was the birthplace of the first Castilian grammar, written by Antonio de Nebrija in 1492. It keeps a Roman funerary distyle that is unique in the Iberian peninsula, and a castle too. To the north lies Cancho Roano, a ritual site of the Tartessian period with a visitor centre.
