Alburquerque is a municipality in the province of Badajoz, in Extremadura. It lies close to the border with Portugal and was once a dominion of the Portuguese kings. The population is 4928 (2025).

Its name has two likely origins: the Latin Albus querqus, "white oak", or the Arabic Abu-al-Qurq, "land of cork oaks". The titles of lord, count and duke of Alburquerque carried weight in Castile in the Middle Ages. Albuquerque in the United States, its sister city, takes its name from this town.
