Get to know Puerto de la Cruz

Puerto de la Cruz is a town and municipality on the northern coast of Tenerife, in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Tourism in the Canary Islands started here: in 1886 the archipelago's first sanatorium for ailing visitors opened in this small port. It was also Spain's first resort with a European clientele.

It is the smallest municipality on Tenerife and lies 4 km northwest of La Orotava. With Los Realejos and La Orotava it forms the Orotava Valley metropolitan area. Its highest point is Las Arenas, a volcanic cone, and the TF-5 motorway runs through the municipality.
