Murcia is the capital and largest city of the Region of Murcia, in south-eastern Spain. Abd ar-Rahman II, Emir of Córdoba, founded it in 825 as Mursiyah. Today it is mainly a services city and a university town.

The cathedral, baroque buildings, sculptures by Francisco Salzillo, Holy Week and the Spring Festival stand out. Summers are hot, winters mild and rain is fairly scarce.
