Mondoñedo is a municipality in the north of the province of Lugo, in Galicia, and the capital of the comarca of A Mariña Central. It occupies a sheltered valley among the northern outliers of the Cantabrian Mountains and was declared a Historic-Artistic Ensemble in 1985.

Its episcopal see is shared with Ferrol, and it was the capital of one of the seven historic provinces of Galicia until 1833. Dolmens, castros and petroglyphs in the valley show settlement as far back as the Neolithic, and the hostel on the Camino del Norte to Santiago is one of the best kept. It belongs to the association Los Pueblos Más Bonitos de España.
