Get to know La Marina Baixa

Marina Baixa is a comarca in the province of Alicante, Valencian Community, facing the Mediterranean. Its traditional capital is Villajoyosa, while Benidorm is its largest town and economic centre. Together with Marina Alta it forms Les Marines, and its people are called blavets after the blue clothes once worn by local fishermen.

The mountainous interior is dominated by the Serra d'Aitana, and the limestone terrain is full of caves, natural arches and springs. Orange, lemon, olive and almond trees are grown here, and tourism is the main source of income. Besides Benidorm and Villajoyosa, its towns include Altea, Alfaz del Pi, La Nucia, Finestrat, Callosa d'en Sarrià and Polop.
