The capital of La Safor on the Mediterranean, home of the Borgias, with its beach set apart from the historic town.
Gandia, spelled Gandía in Spanish, is a city in the province of Valencia, Valencian Community, and the capital of La Safor comarca. In the 15th and 16th centuries it was an important cultural and commercial centre with its own university, home to the poet Ausiàs March and the novelist Joanot Martorell. It is best known for the Borja, or Borgia, family, Dukes of Gandia.
The city has two separate zones: Gandia City, with the historic monuments and shops, and Gandia beach, with apartments, bars and nightclubs. Its neighbourhoods include el Raval, Santa Anna, Benipeixcar, Beniopa, Corea, Grau, Platja and Marxuquera. Gandia has long been one of the main holiday destinations on the Valencian coast.
