El Puerto de Santa María, known locally as El Puerto and historically in English as Port Saint Mary, is a town in the Bahía de Cádiz comarca, in the province of Cádiz, Andalusia. Legend says it was founded by Menestheus, an Athenian king returning from the Trojan War. Some archaeologists place the first Gadir at what is now the Castle of Doña Blanca.

The town spreads along the banks and mouth of the Guadalete river on the shore of the bay. Cádiz lies just across the water to the southwest. El Puerto is part of the Bay of Cádiz-Jerez metropolitan area, and part of the Rota naval base sits within its boundaries.
