Villena ist eine Stadt im Nordwesten der Provinz Alicante in der Valencianischen Gemeinschaft und Hauptort der Comarca Alto Vinalopó. Im Westen grenzt sie an die Region Murcia und Kastilien-La Mancha, im Norden an die Provinz Valencia. Karl V. verlieh ihr 1525 das Stadtrecht, in ihrer wirtschaftlich besten Zeit.

Die Altstadt bewahrt zwei Burgen sowie mehrere Kirchen, Einsiedeleien, Paläste und Plätze. Zu den wichtigsten Festen gehören die Moros y Cristianos und die Fiestas del Medievo, dazu kommt der Wettbewerb junger Interpreten Ruperto Chapí.
