Get to know Viveiro

Viveiro is a coastal town and municipality in the province of Lugo, Galicia, and the capital of the comarca of A Mariña Occidental. It is the third most populous municipality in the province, after Lugo and Monforte de Lemos. Its Holy Week is a festival of International Tourist Interest, and the Rapa das Bestas of Candaoso and the Romería de Naseiro are of national tourist interest.

The municipality fills the valley of the river Landro, which runs down from the Serra do Xistral into the Viveiro estuary, one of the Rías Altas. Most people live in Viveiro, Covas and Cillero, and other places include Magazos, Galdo and Landrove. Iron Age hillforts and the medieval town that grew in importance from the twelfth century shape its history.
