Villarcayo de Merindad de Castilla la Vieja is a municipality in the province of Burgos, in Castile and León. It is the capital of the Las Merindades comarca and was formed by joining Villarcayo with the old Merindad de Castilla la Vieja.
The river Nela runs through the town, which lies in the western part of a wide valley. The main village, Villarcayo, has the Plaza Mayor and the church of Santa Marina, and the patron festivals fall in July and August.
