Get to know Villanueva de la Cañada

Villanueva de la Cañada is a municipality in the western part of the Community of Madrid, 30 km north-west of Madrid. It hosts the main campus of Alfonso X El Sabio University and the Camilo José Cela University, as well as the Aquópolis waterpark. The ESA's European Space Astronomy Centre lies nearby on the Guadarrama riverfront.

The town sits on a broad plain dotted with low hills, one of them crowned by the castle of Aulencia, its main landmark. Beyond the town centre lie Guadamonte, La Raya del Palancar and the well-off area of Villafranca del Castillo. Neighbours include Majadahonda, Boadilla del Monte, Villaviciosa de Odón, Brunete and Valdemorillo.
