Villajoyosa, la Vila Joiosa in Valencian, is a coastal town in the province of Alicante, in the south of the Valencian Community. It is the historic and administrative capital of the Marina Baixa, and locals simply call it la Vila. The town stands over the ancient Iberian and Roman settlement of Alonis.

Fishing has long shaped life here on the Mediterranean. Today chocolate making and tourism drive the local economy.
