Vilches is a municipality in the province of Jaén, in the western part of the comarca of El Condado, Andalusia. It borders Linares, Úbeda, La Carolina and Santa Elena, among others. The rivers Guadalimar, Guadalén, Guarrizas and Despeñaperros run through its territory.

Three reservoirs lie on them: Giribaile, Guadalén and La Fernandina. The municipality includes Vilches, the capital, Guadalén, Miraelrío, Los Encinares, Los Jarales and Pantano del Guadalén, as well as the abandoned settlement of Hortalanca.
