Utrera · 10 min walk
A town in the Seville countryside seen as a cradle of flamenco and of the fighting bull, with a protected historic centre.
Utrera is a town in the province of Seville, Andalusia, about 30 km southeast of the city of Seville, in the farming comarca of La Campiña. Its municipal area is one of the largest in the region, with many cattle farms raising fighting bulls and well-known horse studs. It is considered one of the historic cradles of flamenco.
The historic centre has been protected as a site of cultural interest since 2002, with a 14th-century castle, churches and chapels. Archaeologists found that a building long used as a bar was built as a medieval synagogue. The big event of the year is the fair around the day of the Virgin of Consolación, and the local sweet is the mostachón, a small cinnamon cake.
