Upper Empordà is a comarca in the Girona region of Catalonia, and its capital is Figueres. It was created in 1936, when the Empordà was split into two comarques, the other being Baix Empordà, and together they form the historical and cultural Empordà. Its shape is an inverted triangle with its base towards the Pyrenees.
To the north it borders Vallespir and Roussillon in France, and to the east the Mediterranean. The Montgrí massif and the watershed between the Ter and the Fluvià mark its boundary with Baix Empordà. Its towns include Figueres, Roses, Castelló d'Empúries, L'Escala, Vilafant, Llançà, La Jonquera and Cadaqués.
