Úbeda, capital of La Loma, shares World Heritage status with nearby Baeza for its Renaissance palaces and churches.
Úbeda is a town in the province of Jaén, Andalusia, and the capital of the La Loma comarca. It lies on the southern ridge of the Loma de Úbeda, between the Guadalquivir and Guadalimar rivers. In 2003 UNESCO declared its historic centre a World Heritage Site together with Baeza, for a series of Renaissance palaces and churches preserved since the early 16th century.
Known as the city of hills, it serves the whole comarca with a district hospital, courts and university schools of UNED and SAFA. Trade, public services and olive groves drive the economy, and the town is one of the largest producers and packers of olive oil in the province.
