Get to know Tortosa

Tortosa is a city in the province of Tarragona, Catalonia, the capital of the Baix Ebre comarca and the seat of a diocese. It is an important farming, trading and industrial centre, and most of the Catalan government's regional services for the Terres de l'Ebre are based here. Its many historic monuments recall how much the city mattered to the Crown of Aragon.

Besides the city, the municipality includes Jesús, Bítem, Campredó, els Reguers and Vinallop. The Cardó Massif shelters it from the north, while across the river rise the Ports de Tortosa-Beseit, where Mont Caro and other summits are often under snow in winter. Part of the municipal land lies within Els Ports Natural Park.
