Get to know Talamanca de Jarama
Talamanca de Jarama is a municipality in the north of the Community of Madrid, on the border with Castile-La Mancha. It keeps the finest Romanesque and Romanesque-Mudéjar remains in north-eastern Madrid, such as the apse of San Juan Bautista and the Ábside de los Milagros, known as El Morabito. Its seventeenth-century noble houses have made it a favourite location for films and TV series.
The old town is made up of the former Plaza Fuerte and the Arrabal, divided by the Valdejudíos stream, and was once fully walled. The river Jarama crosses the municipality, and a Roman bridge still spans the Caz stream. Great bustards, harriers and mallards live in the surrounding countryside.
