Get to know Sueca

Sueca is a town in the province of Valencia and the capital of the Ribera Baixa comarca. It grew from an Andalusi farmstead and has lived above all from rice growing. Since 1961 it has hosted the International Valencian Paella Contest, and the essayist Joan Fuster was born here.

The municipality lies between the Albufera to the north, the Xúquer river to the west and south, and the Mediterranean to the east. Many neighbourhoods have grown up along the sea, and Mareny de Barraquetes and El Perelló are also part of it. The town centre has plenty of modernista buildings from the early twentieth century.
