Suances is a municipality on the western coast of Cantabria, and also the town that heads it. It borders the Cantabrian Sea to the north, Santillana del Mar to the west and Polanco to the south. To the east lies the ría formed by the river Saja, and Miengo sits on its far bank.

Besides Suances, the municipality has the villages of Cortiguera, Hinojedo, Ongayo, Puente Avíos and Tagle. Across the ría de San Martín de la Arena lies the beach of Cuchía, in the municipality of Miengo.
