Get to know Soto del Barco

Soto del Barco (Asturian, Sotu'l Barcu) is a small coastal municipality in the Principality of Asturias, on the Cantabrian coast. It sits on the banks of the mouth of the Nalón and belongs to the Cinco Villas association of municipalities. Its name comes from a boat once used to cross the river before any bridge was built.

The Cantabrian Sea lies to the north, Candamo and Pravia to the south, Castrillón to the east and the Nalón to the west. The municipality is made up of Ranón, Soto del Barco, Corrada and Riberas. Trains serve it, and Asturias Airport sits on its border with Castrillón.
