A provincial capital on the Douro, the second highest in Spain, with medieval walls and Romanesque churches.
Soria is a city in the autonomous community of Castile and León and the capital of the province of Soria, on the Douro river. Its history proper begins with its repopulation by Alfonso I the Battler, and it became part of Castile for good in 1134. Alfonso VIII was born here.
The city keeps long medieval walls, Renaissance palaces and distinctive Romanesque churches. The Numantine Museum shows finds from the nearby Celtiberian city of Numantia. Its football team, CD Numancia, is named after that ancient city.
