Get to know Santa Fe

Santa Fe is a municipality in the Vega de Granada, in the province of Granada, Andalusia. The Catholic armies besieging Granada built the town after a fire destroyed much of their camp, and the Capitulations of Santa Fe with Columbus were signed here on 17 April 1492. That is why the town calls itself the cradle of hispanicity.

The municipality includes Santa Fe, El Jau and most of Pedro Ruiz, and is part of the Granada metropolitan area. The land is almost entirely flat, with the river Genil running through it. Santa Fe borders the Chana and Ronda districts of Granada, as well as Fuente Vaqueros, Pinos Puente, Atarfe, Vegas del Genil, Las Gabias, Chimeneas and Chauchina.
