Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the capital of the island of Tenerife and of its province, and shares the role of capital of the Canary Islands with Las Palmas. It is home to the Parliament of the Canary Islands, and its harbour is one of the busiest in Spain. The city also stages one of the world's largest carnivals.
The municipality is divided into the districts of Anaga, Centro-Ifara, Salud-La Salle, Ofra-Costa Sur and Suroeste. Rising like an amphitheatre from the shore, the city merges with San Cristóbal de La Laguna. Plaza de España, García Sanabria Park and the Auditorio de Tenerife sit in the centre.
