Get to know San Cristóbal de La Laguna

San Cristóbal de La Laguna, usually just La Laguna, is a city on the island of Tenerife in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The former capital of the Canary Islands, it has a historic centre listed by UNESCO as a unique example of an unwalled colonial town. Home to the first university founded in the Canaries, it is seen as the islands' cultural capital.

La Laguna and Santa Cruz de Tenerife form a single large urban centre, while farming dominates the northeast of the municipality. The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias, the Hospital Universitario de Canarias and Tenerife North Airport are all here. Landmarks in the old town include the Cathedral, the Church of La Concepción, the Sanctuary of the Christ of La Laguna, Casa Salazar and the Palacio de Nava.
