Get to know Salou

Salou is a resort town and municipality in the comarca of Tarragonès, province of Tarragona. Founded by the Greeks in the 6th century BC, it was a notable commercial port in medieval and modern times. During the 20th century it became a major European tourist destination.

It has been a municipality in its own right since 1989, when a Supreme Court ruling separated it from Vila-seca. A string of beaches broken by rocky coves runs along a landscaped promenade, and PortAventura World lies between the two municipalities. Barcelona is 112 km away.
