Roses is a municipality in the comarca of Alt Empordà, in the province of Girona, on the Costa Brava. It covers the southern half of the Cap de Creus peninsula, and the town sits at the northern end of the Gulf of Roses. Tourism has made it grow fast since the 1960s, and it remains an important fishing port.
A long sandy beach runs along the seafront, and further east come coves such as Canyelles Petites, L'Almadrava and Montjoi, along with Punta Falconera and Cap Norfeu. The town has a fishing harbour and a marina, and the GR 92 coastal footpath passes through on its way to Cadaqués. Olive groves and vineyards still dot the land, and a road links Roses with Figueres.
