Get to know Ribamontán al Mar

Ribamontán al Mar is a municipality on the central coast of Cantabria, on the eastern side of the Bay of Santander. It was formed when the old Junta de Ribamontán, in the Merindad de Trasmiera, was split in two. It was the first municipality in Spain to be declared a natural surf reserve.

Its best-known villages are Somo, Loredo and Langre, all with long beaches, while Galizano has a smaller one. The Puntal de Somo, a tongue of sand reaching into the bay, is one of the largest sandy areas in Cantabria. A ferry line links Somo with Santander and Pedreña.
