Get to know Punta Umbría

Punta Umbría is a municipality in the province of Huelva, in Andalusia, within the Huelva metropolitan comarca. It is a fishing village on the banks of the river Odiel, across the water from Huelva, surrounded by wide salt marshes and facing Isla Saltes. During World War II the body of a supposed British major carrying false secret papers washed up here, as part of Operation Mincemeat.

The name comes from the long point that runs out to sea from the beach. At Punta Umbría Beach the Odiel meets the Atlantic Ocean, and this urban beach holds a Blue Flag for cleanliness and facilities.
