Get to know Puente Genil

Puente Genil is a municipality in the province of Córdoba, in Andalusia, part of the Campiña Sur Cordobesa. It was founded in 1834 by merging La Puente de Don Gonzalo and Miragenil. In 1889 it became the second place in Spain, after Barcelona, to light its streets with electricity.

The municipality borders the province of Seville. Ten outlying villages belong to it, among them Cordobilla and El Palomar. The arrival of the railway in the nineteenth century turned the town into a transport hub.
