Priego de Córdoba is a town at the southeastern end of the province of Córdoba, in the Subbética comarca and on the Caliphate Route. It is called the city of water for the many springs around it. Its wealth of Baroque buildings has also earned it the name jewel of Córdoba's Baroque.

The town lies on the northern slope of the Sierra de Priego, near the source of the Guadajoz. It heads a judicial district, takes in several outlying villages and borders the provinces of Jaén and Granada. King Alfonso XII granted it the title of city in 1881.
