Ponteareas is a town and municipality in the comarca of O Condado, in the province of Pontevedra, Galicia, on the river Tea, a tributary of the Miño. It is the main town of a fertile hilly area producing wine, grain and fruit, with many cattle farms. For Corpus Christi, residents cover the streets with handmade flower carpets, a festival of International Tourist Interest since 2009.
The municipality is made up of parishes including Puenteareas, where the town stands, Xinzo, Areas, Ribadetea, Gulanes, San Martín de Moreira, Padrones and San Mateo de Oliveira. The Vigo-Benavente highway runs through it. Nearby are the ruins of Sobroso Castle, owned by Ponteareas though located in Mondariz.
