Pego is a municipality in the north-east of the province of Alicante, on the border with the province of Valencia, in the comarca of Marina Alta. It lies just inland from Dénia, in a depression surrounded by mountains. It has long been the centre of the valley that bears its name and of the towns in the neighbouring valleys.

Pego was an important Arab enclave and later part of the Taifa of Dénia. James I of Aragon conquered it and the barony of Pego was created. It has also been the seat of a judicial district.
