Get to know Pamplona

Pamplona, Iruña in Basque, is the capital of the Chartered Community of Navarre, set in the middle of the Cuenca de Pamplona. Tradition credits its foundation to Pompey as Pompaelo, and it later became a capital of the Kingdom of Pamplona, later Navarre. Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises made its San Fermín bull runs famous, and the city is home to Osasuna football club.

The city sits on the flood plain of the Arga, with the Elorz and the Sadar also flowing through it. Its neighbourhoods include Chantrea, Rochapea, Buztintxuri-Euntzetxiki, San Jorge, Iturrama, Milagrosa-Arrosadia, Mendillorri and the Ensanches. The climate sits between the rainy Atlantic north and the drier inland of Spain.
