Avenida del Vigía, 18. Palos de la Frontera, Huelva, Andalusia, Spain
The cradle of the discovery of America, where Columbus set sail in 1492.
Palos de la Frontera is a town and municipality in the province of Huelva, in Andalusia, 13 km from the provincial capital. It is known as the cradle of the discovery of America, because the first voyage of Christopher Columbus was prepared here. They sailed from its port in 1492, which is why it belongs to the Lugares Colombinos.
Its history is tied to maritime work, fishing and trade. Since the last third of the twentieth century the main economic driver has been strawberry growing, exported to much of the European Union. The municipal area also holds factories devoted to oil refining and to the storage and regasification of liquefied natural gas.
