Get to know Pallars Sobirá

Pallars Sobirà, meaning Upper Pallars, is a comarca in the Alt Pirineu area of Catalonia, in the central Pyrenees. It is one of the least densely populated comarcas in Catalonia, with Sort as its capital and largest municipality. Here you will find the Pica d'Estats, the highest peak in Catalonia, and Certascan, the largest lake in the Pyrenees.

The Noguera Pallaresa river runs through it from the gorge of Collegats north to the village of Alós d'Isil. Most of the land is protected, including the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park and the Alt Pirineu Natural Park. Besides Sort, it takes in Esterri d'Àneu, Rialp, Alt Àneu, Soriguera, Vall de Cardós, Espot and Baix Pallars.
