Get to know Palafrugell

Palafrugell is the largest town of the Baix Empordà, in the province of Girona, Catalonia. It grew on cork manufacturing, and a small museum below the old factory tower still recalls that industry. The writer Josep Pla is closely tied to the town, and it is a long-standing summer retreat for people from Barcelona and Girona.

Alongside the town centre, the municipality takes in the seaside villages of Calella, Llafranc and Tamariu, plus Llofriu, Santa Margarida and Ermedàs inland. Narrow streets lead out from Plaça Nova, a large square with bars, restaurants and boutiques near the church of Sant Martí. From the bus station there are regular services along the Costa Brava and to Barcelona.
