Olot is the capital of the Garrotxa comarca in the province of Girona, Catalonia. The whole municipality lies within the Zona Volcànica de la Garrotxa Natural Park, with volcanoes such as Montsacopa and Croscat scattered around the centre. The city is known for its religious imagery workshops, the Escola d'Art i Superior de Disseny and its volcanic cuisine.

Around the centre lie Sant Roc, Sant Cristòfol de les Fonts, Sant Andreu del Coll, Closells and the former village of Batet de la Serra. The Parc Nou holds the Volcano Museum and a botanical garden, and the Fageda d'en Jordà beech forest is close by. The old narrow gauge railway to Girona is now a greenway.
