Get to know Noia

Noia is a town and municipality in the province of A Coruña, Galicia, and the capital of its comarca. In the Middle Ages it was the main seaport of the archbishopric of Santiago, and from that time it keeps the Gothic church of San Martiño and Santa María A Nova with its Museo das Laudas Gremiais. The writers María Mariño and Antón Avilés de Taramancos were born here.

The town sits near the mouth of the Tambre, at the innermost point of the ría. Arcaded squares, narrow streets and houses with coats of arms make up its centre, and fishing and shellfish gathering shaped its economy. Besides the town, the municipality takes in Santa Cristina de Barro, Argalo, Santa Marina de Obre, Santa María de Roo and San Pedro de Boa.
