Get to know Nerja

Nerja is a town on the Costa del Sol, in the province of Málaga, on Spain's southern Mediterranean coast east of the city of Málaga. It is part of the comarca of La Axarquía and its easternmost municipality. The Cave of Nerja, found in 1959, holds paintings that may be the oldest known cave art.

The municipality includes the village of Maro and the Maro cliffs, and shares the Sierras of Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama natural park with Granada. A mild climate all year lets farmers grow cherimoya, avocado and mango. Nerja has drawn visitors since the 1960s, and many residents are foreign, mostly English.
