Get to know Murcia

Murcia is a city and municipality in south-eastern Spain, and the capital of the Region of Murcia. It sits on the Segura River and is the centre of the Huerta de Murcia comarca. It was founded in 825 by order of Abd ar-Rahman II.

Its parts include Espinardo, La Purísima-Barriomar, Infante Juan Manuel, Santa María de Gracia, Santiago El Mayor, El Carmen, Vista Alegre and El Ranero. Its highlights are the cathedral, the casino and the sculptures of Francisco Salzillo, and the city is a university town with two universities.
