Mula is a municipality in the Region of Murcia and the capital of the Río Mula comarca, as well as the seat of a judicial district. It is best known for the Tamborada, the drumming processions of Holy Week listed by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage, and for the fiestas of the Niño Jesús de Mula.
Residents live in the town itself and in outlying villages such as Fuente Librilla, Yéchar, Los Baños de Mula, Puebla de Mula and Casas Nuevas. The municipality of Pliego sits in the middle of its territory. Close to the town centre stands the Castle of los Vélez, built in the twelfth century.
