Montilla · 9 min walk
A town in Córdoba's southern countryside, birthplace of the Great Captain and home of Montilla-Moriles wine.
Montilla is a town in the province of Córdoba, south of the provincial capital, and the natural centre of the Campiña Sur Cordobesa. Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba, the Great Captain, was born here in the castle whose ruins still overlook the town. King Philip IV granted it the title of city in 1630.
Montilla is famous for its Pedro Ximénez grapes and for the wines and vinegars of the Montilla-Moriles designation of origin. Its position in the middle of Andalusia has made it a major road junction.
