Get to know Monistrol de Montserrat

Monistrol de Montserrat is a municipality in the comarca of Bages, in the province of Barcelona, right below the mountain of Montserrat. Its land includes much of the massif and the famous Benedictine monastery.

The river Llobregat splits it in two: the original village is on the right bank and the newer districts, Monistrol-Residencial, El Pla and La Batanera, on the left. A Catalan Government Railways train links it with central Barcelona every half hour, and the Montserrat Rack Railway climbs from the station up the mountain.
