Get to know Mondragón

Arrasate/Mondragón is a town in the province of Gipuzkoa, in the Basque Country, and the largest in the Alto Deba comarca. It is the centre of the Basque cooperative movement and one of the region's main industrial towns. More than half of its residents speak Basque.

Cooperatives such as Laboral Kutxa, Eroski and Fagor started here, and Mondragon University has its seat in the town. Medieval Mondragón was built east of the Santa Bárbara hill, while Arrasate is the Basque name of the earlier settlement.
