Get to know Moguer

Moguer is a small city and municipality in the province of Huelva, Andalusia, whose present bounds date from the Seigneury of Moguer of 1333. Here Columbus found support from the abbess of Santa Clara and from the Niño brothers, who provided the caravel Niña. Together with nearby Palos de la Frontera, it forms the lugares colombinos, a route of places linked to that voyage.

The town centre holds the Santa Clara Monastery and the former Corpus Christi convent. For centuries its river port shipped local wines to the Americas, Russia and across Europe, and strawberry farming now drives the economy. The beaches of Mazagón, shared with Palos, are a few kilometres away.
