Mijas is a municipality in the Costa del Sol Occidental comarca, in the province of Málaga, Andalusia. It is the third most populous in the province after Málaga and Marbella. Tourism has driven its growth since the 1950s, and many of its residents come from abroad.
Mijas Pueblo, the historic centre, is a typical Andalusian white-washed village on the slopes of the Sierra de Mijas. Las Lagunas has grown into one with Fuengirola, while La Cala de Mijas is the seaside village. The coastal strip, Mijas Costa, also takes in Calahonda and Riviera, and the municipality has several golf courses.
