Mazarrón is a municipality in the Region of Murcia, in the Bajo Guadalentín comarca, on the Mediterranean coast. Farming, fishing and above all tourism drive the local economy, and the population swells in summer thanks to the beaches. Its Murcian Modernist buildings include the Town Hall and the former Cultural Athenaeum.

People live in the town of Mazarrón, in Puerto de Mazarrón and in several smaller villages. The bay, sheltered by the foothills of the Sierra de la Almenara, a mining area since Carthaginian times, has beaches such as Bolnuevo, unspoiled coves and rocky sea beds. The Torre de los Caballos was built to defend the town from pirate raids.
